Interviewer: Your new album is the most expensive album that has ever been made in Finland (budget was half million euros). Have you calculated how many records must be sold to cover the expenses of the album?
Tuomas : I haven' t dared yet. I don't have a clue. But it costed what it costed and we decided with the band members that we aren't going to do any compromises with the album.

Tuomas: Hopefully the sale of the new album will at least cover the expenses of making it so we are able to do the next album.
Interviewer : What about your own intuitions concerning how the album will succeed?

Tuomas: My personal opinion, that usually always goes wrong, is that in some countries, especially abroad, it will have even greater succes than the previous album. But in some countries, like Finland, because of several reasons, it doesn't reach the same numbers of selling than before. This is what I guess, let's see what happens...

Interviewer: You recorded the orchestral parts at the studio.. Did you get "royal" feelings because there were many players who played the music you self have composed?
Tuomas: It felt so amazing that I could write even a song about that feeling... I can't explain those feelings in any other way. It was so great. Think about that you self had made a song about very personal things and the best players in the world are playing it with true passion.

(...continue) Tuomas: It sounded damn good. I'm looking forward very eager to do the next album and it's orchestral parts and have that same feeling again.

Interviewer: Nightwish did a surprise gig in Tallinn last Saturday and there were over thousand people in the audience. It was the very first gig with the new singer. Honestly, what kind of feelings did you have when the show was over?

Tuomas: It was one of the greatest feelings I've ever felt in my life without exaggerating at all, after that all fear of dying 2 hours before the gig but we still did a good show. Especially I was very proud of Anette. We were all very nervous before the gig and we feared how we could manage the gig. But the audience was so nice and the atmosphere warm. After the gig we felt very, very relieved.

Interviewer: So you did get a good start for the world tour?
Tuomas: Yes, I can say it's good to continue from this situation.

Interviewer: For a couple of weeks ago in our interview you said that Nightwish will go to USA to "rehearse" and then at December you have the first gigs in Finland. Do you think you are full of confidence at that time?

Tuomas: I'm certain that we will have enough confidence at that time because then we have done over 30 gigs. So I think we will have a good routine in our gigs then.. If we still are bad in Scandinavia and Finland after touring quite much I think that the hope is gone. But anyway I think we are in a good gig condition (?!) then.

Interviewer: The name of the album "Dark Passion Play" refers to kicking Tarja Turunen out of the band.. If you haven't had begun composing straight after Tarja had been kicked out of Nightwish, would the album been completely different?

Tuomas: I'm sure it would have been (different). When you write the songs and when you rehearse them with the band, the music always reflects the feelings that members of the band are at that moment going through, that's only natural. And the very unpleasent thing that happened in 2005, surely has had a very big influence in the album.

(continue..) Tuomas: The name of the album, "Dark Passion Play" doesn't necessarily point at that thing..(kicking out Tarja)..it could be understood in a differrent way..it's about passion, that's what the music has always meant to me the most.

Interviewer: Do you wish that this whole Tarja-episode is now over and the discussion about her has come to an end? Tuomas: That is what I have wished for a long time and this certain song is somekind of bitter sweet farewell song for her, made in goodmeanings..It may sound a little bit more aggressive than the story really is...Nobody has wanted anything bad for anyone
and I wish all the best for her (Tarja). The video itself has nothing to do with Tarja, it's pure rock 'n' roll.

------------------------------------------------------

Interviewer: When you think about the past two years, have you been surprised how much there has been writing and how much the media has been interested conserning Nightwish?
Tuomas: Yes, it surprised me totally. Thinking about it now afterwards I wonder how me and the other members of the band could have been so naive when we thought childishly that nobody could be interested in our rockband from Kitee.

(continues..) Tuomas: We didn't expect at all how big thing it could become in media. We had to discover a way to manage through all that.

Interviewer: What kind of influence has the change of the singer been commercially? It has been up in the media exceptionally often
during the past two years. You've been in the headlines because of this change a lot?

Tuomas: Yes, we've had a lot of attention from the media, more than enough. I can't say how it's going to affect...

(continues..) Tuomas: As a "drama" this is really exiting to the normal people, like a soap opera from real life, whether you like the band or not. I haven't really enjoyed the situation ..it has been just a compulsory thing for me. The next couple of weeks will show how this is going to proceed.

Tuomas: "Amaranth"-single has had a very good reception in the world and all over the Europe but the releasing of the album will finally show in which direction we are going to go. I think everything is possible. If we think about the sale and success; we'll either stay at the same, go down a big time or maybe even go higher...what ever happens ----- (can't hear what Tuomas says in the end of this sentence).

Interviewer: Is it enough nowadays that you just make good music or is the so called extra publicity what you need also?

Tuomas: I would say it's like a one big puzzle and every piece has its own meaning. But first of all it's the music that counts.. without it (music) you can't be long in the business. You can survive a year or too but to have continuity it's about the music.

(continues..) Tuomas: The more visibility and positive publicity you have... it's really not a bad thing , should we say.

Interviewer: Do you think that all this publicity has had some disadvantages to Nightwish in some way?

Tuomas: Some say there isn't such a thing called bad publicity, but I disagree in this case. I think people have begun to focus on "wrong" things.. After all it's only about a rockband whose purpose is to make music..to make music with passion and so well we are able to. People often forget that.

Interviewer: What things you wouldn't do in any case even if it promoted/brought up the record sale?
Tuomas: I never wouldn't like to speak up for example politically. Our music has sometimes been asked to be played in some political programmes but I have not given the permission. Actually it really wouldn't be such a bad thing but it's just not our thing.
.Our music has also been asked to be used in some questionable commercials but we haven't gone to that road either.
