"Snowboarding was a one-off try. All I got was bad feeling and bruises"

Nightwish have a busy year behind. Almost 150 gigs already which is more than the band made on the previous two years tour alltogether. October was vacation for the band, next Nightwish lead by Tuomas Holopainen will be headed to South America. The most passionate fans - in good and bad - are there, characterizes Holopainen.

How did you spend your vacation?
- I went hiking in Lapland. I made about a 60 km trip from Ylläs to Olos. Hiking is my passionate hobby. Never before have we had such fine weather, we enjoyed incredibly beautiful autumn days.

Are you a man of seasons?
- I think that winter is the best season of the year.

Do you ski?
- I'm going to purchase skis next year. I have to try how [cross-country] skiing will taste now, because at highshool and in the army I got little traumatized with the sport. I like outdoor life and there is a good public sking trail passing my house. I have been going for downhill sking, but my experiments with snowboard happened just once. It left me with bad feeling and big bruises.

How far you'd run in a Cooper's test? (= run as far as one is able in 12 minutes, used widely in Finnish schools and army)
- I'd be disappointed if I couldn't reach the 2400 meters mark.

Are we allowed to ask about the next CD?
- Two songs are almost ready, and I have a clear vision of the CD's concept. The DPP-tour will still take almost another year, so we will start making a new CD in winter 2010.

The band's prevoius record was born under dark feelings. How is the energy level now?
- Yes, the prevoius CD was born of anxiety and angst. Hopefully we will move in the other end now. The most important are strong emotions, were they positive or negative.

If you were to compose music for a movie, what genre you'd prefer?
- The genre isn't important. I'd be willing to try anything with an interesting subject. Oh, wait. Let's draw a limit in front of romantic comedy. I might have somewhat over romantic vision about composing soundtracks. It's aftera ll going with the lines of the director and the editor. My artistic creativity might get challenged.

What kind of abilities you envy in other people?
- Social skills, for example in my own parents. I haven't inherited from them a single ability of resolving conflicts. Though I have developed in it during the recent years. And even one keeps trying his best, there's nothing much to do to the stupidity of people.

What is the natural colour of your hair
- By looking the root growth they are medium brown?

When was the last time you had your natural hair colour?
- Maybe almost ten years ago.

Do you go shopping without make-up?
- Yes! (laughs) make-up belong to the stage.

Which home tasks are your bravuras?
- I like cooking. My father and sister are my cook idols. Last Christmas I got a cookbook for present from my sister. She has written it by herself and I have tried all kinds of recipies in it. Sometimes it's relaxing to wash dishes, vacuum and showel off snow. I'm not a passionate cleaner, but then again I won't grow grey hair for doing it.

Did you vote at the local elections?
- Yes, I voted for my father. He represents the National Coalition party. Politics is quite distant subject to me.

So you wouldn't want to run for the local council?
- I haven't thought about it. Or actually I have so far that I'm sure I won't.

Do you believe in extraterrestrial life?
- I think the odds it exist are extremely high. It'd be huge waiste if there wasn't any.

What is the meaning o life?
- I wish I knew, it would make me a much more happier human being.
